Funding needed
"The last time he attacked me was particularly nasty. It was the first time my daughter was there in the house. He bruised my neck and put a pillow over my face. I rang the Helpline the next night.*"
A call from this woman led to her first steps towards increased safety. Within a matter of days she had a key worker who supported her through a process of changing the locks, getting an injunction out against her abuser, and having a tracer placed on her telephone line so that all emergency calls were picked up urgently.
This was typical of the 137,000 calls received by the helpline last year. Sadly we unable to answer all the calls we receive. We desperately need further funding in order to cope with demand and ensure that victims of domestic violence are able to access the help they need, when they need it.
We are very grateful for the support we currently receive – but we constantly need to secure new support to keep the service running.
